Positioned in a demolition control precinct, the clients presented us with a house straddled over 2 lots in the inner city suburb of Hawthorne with plans to move the existing house over to the left side of the block, renovate the existing residence and build a new home on the vacant Lot. After a lengthy DA application process, we were granted part demolition approval to move over and cut down the existing home but keep the façade and character of the home in tact. The existing home was then fully renovated from the roof down including the pool that was retained in the rear yard, however also receiving an extensive makeover to suit the newly remodeled and sophisticated Queenslander.
The design brief from the clients due to the surrounding homes was to keep the quaint look to the façade and fully modernise the inside so it looked like a brand new home. The home now consists of four large bedrooms, all with built in wardrobes, the master boasts a generous sized walk in robe and impeccable luxurious ensuite with freestanding bath, feature pendant lights, double vanity and extra large shower.
The only original feature other than the façade that is still visual is the timber decking on the front balcony that you can still see today that adds some rustic charm to the home. This home was the successful winner in the 2011 HIA awards for the Queensland category Renovation / Addition value $300,000 – $600,000.
